Basic Keelboat Cruising
The first step for newer sailors.
This course includes 14 hours of classroom instruction, followed by at least 18 hours on the water. Instructor to student ratio is 3:1 offering lots of hands-on time.

Intermediate Keelboat Cruising
Once you have built some experience.
This is a 6 Day, 5 Night live-aboard cruise and learn cruise. Explore the Gulf Islands aboard a 35 foot vessel. Departing from Vancouver Island students will join in the operation of the vessel as both crew and skipper. The vessel will be operated under sail and power while making daytime passages. This course builds the skills needed for live-aboard cruises and bareboat chartering.

This introductory navigation standard covers a basic knowledge of navigation theory.
The curriculum covers the role of the navigator and introduces the publications, aids to navigation, tools and techniques that support planning and safe passage making
Students must purchase their navigation tools and charts at additional cost. Approx $130

Intermediate Coastal Navigation
The focus of the Intermediate navigation standard is to build upon concepts learned in the basic course.
The curriculum includes near shore navigation and covers position determination techniques using non-electronic means. Also covered are approaches for dealing with current and leeway. The course also covers the determination of intermediate tidal heights. An introduction to the basics of passage planning and the impact that the Collision Regulations have on navigational practice.
Students must purchase charts for an additional $50.

Basic Keelboat Online Ashore course
This is an online course for students who can’t make it to an in a class session.
This course includes 14 hours of home study to prepare you for your practical session. Using guided readings, and several videos, you cover the course material in the comfort of your home.

How do I sign up?

Can I change my course?
Absolutely! If you provide us with enough notice, you can switch your course. You are allowed to switch up to two times without any additional charges.
What’s your refund policy?
For courses rescheduled within 14 days, there are no refunds available due to the costs associated with offering the course. However, we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
How should I make payment?
Our courses generally sell out by February, or March. To secure your spot, we need either a deposit or payment in full. All course fees are due before the course.
Can I invite others to join?
If your spouse, or a friend would like to join, please let me know. Non students are not allowed onboard due to insurance rules. However, we can tailor a learning program that suits you.
What credentials do I receive upon completing an online course?
Upon successful completion of the course, you will get a digital certificate via email. You will also obtain official Sail Canada certification in your Logbook.
